Owner and head chef Hira Rana emigrated to New Zealand from Chamoli, India over 20 years ago and has since established himself as one of the leading Indian chefs in New Zealand.

Since moving to Palmerston North he has opened both the Royal Garden Indian and the Star of India, both widely recognised as the best Indian cuisine in the region, winning multiple awards consistently over a number of years.

Vegetarian Entree

Veg. Samosa – $6.00 – Crispy deep fried triangular pastry stuffed with potato, peas & nuts.

Veg. Pakora – $6.00 –  Chopped mixed vegetable dipped in spiced chickpeas flour then deep fried.

Onion Baji – $6.00 – Julienne cut onion dipped in spiced chickpeas flour then deep fried.

Samosa Chaat – $8.00 – Deep fried vegetable samosa mix with yoghurt and other chef’s special sauce.

Paneer Pakora – $8.00 – Cottage cheese pieces dipped in spices, chickpeas, batter and then deep fried.

Paneer Koliwala – $10.00 – Paneer marinated in chickpea flour with special Indian Spices, deep fried in oil and served with tamarind sauce.

Mushroom Tandoori – $10.00 – Mushrooms marinated in spicy garlic and yoghurt then cooked in Tandoori oven and served in a bed of salad.

Paneer Tikka – $15.00 – Thick Paneer pieces marinated overnight in yoghurt, spices and cooked in Tandoori oven and served with tamarind sauce.

Hariyali Paneer Tikka – $15.00 – Thick Paneer pieces marinated overnight in yoghurt, spices and mint then cooked in Tandoori oven and served with tamarind sauce.

Chicken Malai Tikka – $10.00 – Tender pieces of chicken marinated in yoghurt, cheese and cream sauce. Cooked in Tandoor sauce.

Hariyali Chicken Tikka – $10.00 – Tender Chicken pieces marinated overnight in yoghurt, cehfs special sauces, mint and cooked in tandoori oven.

Lamb Seekh Kebab – $10.00 – Lamb mince lightly spiced and rolled on skewers and roasted in Tandoor.

Prawns Koliwala – $12.00 – Prawns marinated in chickpea flour, served with mint sauce.
